Overview
The MultiPlus-II 2x120V: A Complete Solution for 50A 120/240VAC Split-Phase Mobile Applications
The MultiPlus-II 2x120V is the ultimate one-box solution for standard North American 50A split-phase power systems. Whether your power source is shore power or a generator, this unit is built to handle both lines of a 120/240V supply, delivering full 50A passthrough capability for charging and AC loads. When only a 120V single-phase source is available, the MultiPlus-II draws power from L1, while internally combining L1 and L2 outputs to provide 120V across both output lines.
In the absence of shore or generator power, the unit seamlessly switches to inverter mode. In this mode, it produces a single-phase 120V output by bridging L1 and L2 internally, ensuring uninterrupted power across both legs of your panel. However, 240VAC output is only possible when connected to a split-phase AC source. This design prevents high-demand 240V appliances—like water heaters or air conditioners—from draining the battery in inverter mode.
As with the rest of the MultiPlus line, the 2x120V model includes powerful features like PowerControl, PowerAssist, Input Current Limiting, dual AC outputs, and support for parallel and three-phase configurations. It’s compatible with LiFePO4 and a range of other battery chemistries, making it a versatile fit for a wide variety of energy systems.
120/240V or 120V Input and Output – Always 120V Output in Inverter Mode
The AC input can be sourced from either a split-phase 120/240V or single-phase 120V supply. When connected to AC power, the unit passes through the supply to the output—mirroring the input. The inverter/charger connects to neutral and the preferred L1 input, drawing all charging current from L1.
If the AC supply drops, the MultiPlus switches to inverter operation. In this case, L1 and L2 outputs are bridged internally to ensure both sides of a distribution panel receive 120VAC. Only when a split-phase input is available will 240V loads be powered, avoiding unnecessary battery drain from large 240V appliances.
PowerControl and PowerAssist – Amplify Grid or Generator Capabilities
With PowerControl, a current limit can be set for the grid or generator input. The MultiPlus then monitors total AC consumption and uses only excess power for charging—ensuring the source is never overloaded.
PowerAssist takes this further: when a load spike exceeds available shore or generator power, the MultiPlus draws from the battery to cover the gap. Once the load drops, spare capacity is redirected to recharge the battery—all through the L1 input.
Dual AC Outputs for Smart Load Management
The main output (L1) offers seamless power transfer during an outage, with a switching time under 18ms—ideal for sensitive electronics like computers.
The L2 output takes slightly longer to transfer—about 40ms. A second auxiliary output is available and only active when AC input is present. Use this for loads that shouldn’t run off the battery, like water heaters or air conditioners.
Scale with Parallel or Three-Phase Operation
Need more power? Up to six units can operate in parallel for expanded output capacity. For three-phase applications, three identical units can be configured for balanced output. In multi-phase systems, L2 is disabled on all units to maintain system integrity.
Easy Setup, Monitoring, and Control—Locally or Remotely
Configuration is fast and intuitive using VEConfigure software with a laptop and MK3-USB interface. System monitoring is flexible with options like Cerbo GX, Venus GX, CANvu GX, Color Control GX, VE.Bus Smart dongle (Bluetooth), or a Digital Multi Control panel.
Remote Access via VRM – Monitor from Anywhere
Pair the system with a GX device and connect it to the internet to access Victron’s free VRM (Victron Remote Management) portal. Monitor, analyze, and change system settings remotely—whether you're on-site or halfway around the world.
